Wondering if the new Deus Ex: Human Revolution is on par with its original games? Well PC Gamer, RockPaperShotgun, Joystiq and Kotaku review one of the more anticipated games this year and you can determine if you're still on the fence with this one.
Best way I can describe it so far is kinda a Splinter Cell but slightly more open like a Fallout game (though so far in a city not the large outdoors). Graphics, Gameplay, etc.. all very smooth and no day one issues found. Doing missions, side missions, etc.. to get XP points that then you spend on upgrades to abilities, weapons, etc.. You can go head on shoot bad guys, but stealth is more the way the game is meant to be IMHO. Hacking doors, computers, looking around in each room for "helpful" things/codes/papers, etc.....

If you liked Fallout, Splinter Cell type games, you should really like this.

I am 100% happy with my purchase.

I agree with JW, very very fun game so far as ive played it for a couple hours today........OUCH, i just checked my library and it says I've played it for 6 hours. Picking which Augmentations to select hurts my brain. Stealth is definitely the way to go. Ive gotten past a really tough area only to reset intentionally to a save point just before it because I thought of a different way I wanted to try it. Its DEFINITELY not a run and gun, if you try it that way, you will promptly die. I don't have the hang of hacking yet but when your doing upgrades your like......Hack upgrade or superstrength so i can drop a vending machine on someones head....hmmmmm

Great game, well worth the money.

2 Years Anniversary

Two years is a long time. Two years is an eternity for an internet based -anything. For that, and a thousand other reasons, I am thrilled to be writing about Better with Age Gaming on the occasion of its second anniversary. Better with Age, or BwA, is a community of PC gamers aged 25 and up. The community exists to provide a relaxed, good natured environment for the older gamer. Skill isn't a requirement for membership. Instead, all that's required is a good attitude and friendly demeanor, a microphone to chat and laugh with us, and a love of PC gaming. BwA hosts servers for Counter-Strike Source, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2,

Team Fortress 2, and Call of Duty Black Ops. There is a large group that is further interested in various Battlefield and other Call of Duty games and regularly plays together.

What is BwA?
Now there's a question that can be answered in a couple of different ways. By the numbers BwA is a solid group of 120 or so PC gamers that have a common interest in first person shooter PC games. Every month 8 to 10 new members join us while 3 to 5 fade to inactivity. Our forums are incredibly active, having recently surpassed 50,000 posts. In addition to game related news there are numerous common interest community boards on topics like PC building and component buying advice or troubleshooting. It's also where our Fantasy Football league is played out, and where all of the other things message boards are generally used for occurs.

On the hardware side, our donation-supported dedicated server is an eight-core monster with dual Xeon 5620s, 24 GB DDR3, and four 1-TB harddrives in raid-10 to ensure that no matter what is going on in one server the others remain buttery smooth.

More important than the hardware, however, is how we use it. These numbers may vary, but there are roughly half a dozen Counter-Strike Source and ten Left 4 Dead servers running at any given time. The Counter-Strike servers include stock CSS, gungame, turbo death match, and various private servers available to members for scrimming along with specially configed privates for league play. On the Left 4 Dead side there are similarly numerous public servers as well as an abundance of private servers for stock play and a rotation of popular mods.

To avoid letting things get stale members occassionaly volunteer to organize intra-community tournaments and "Fun Nights." The former usually involve a psuedorandom team selection of some sort followed with a few weeks of match play. We've done this kind of thing for several games and had a blast each time. The "Fun Nights" are much less formal and usually a free or inexpensive (sub-$5) game/mod that very few people are familiar with. An advantage to administering our own dedicated hardware is that creating new game servers only requires that someone with access upload the necessary files and configure the server. Goldeneye Source and Team Fortress 2 have both worked really well for this kind of event.

Well, ladies and gents, I kid you not. These maps will only cost you about 30 seconds each to download and install. Wowzers what a deal!

Q: But Farva, how do I install these?
A: There are directions for each install with the link to the file. It's so easy even a Jockey can do it!!

Q: But Farva, when will I ever play these maps.
A: All the freaking time!! And how about a L4D custom map super-blowout-spectacular this weekend AKA Friday (Aug 27th and Saturday Aug, 28)

Q: But Farva, why should I kill zombies?
A: Because, zombies are bad mmmkaayyy....

September Brainfest

You are cordially invited to the BwA L4D2 Fall Brainfest. Visit the forums to sign up and be assigned to a team between now and August 27. The tournament will consist of at least three matches and include versus, scavenge, and realism versus modes. Prizes include the all important bragging rights as well as several gift certificates to various restaurants and/or retailers.

Match Play: Due to varied schedules, we will simply ask that everyone play their matches within September. We will post the entire lineup (all three teams that you’ll play) up front so to accommodate everyone’s schedules, you can play matches in any order (you can play your 3rd team first, your 2nd team last, etc) as long as they are all completed during the month of September.

Scoring: We will go with discrete scoring (a win = 1 a loss = 0) and individual map scores will not come into play (meaning that if a team wins by 1000 pts and another team wins by 100 pts those two will be equivalent). We are doing this so that if, by chance, a team has a runaway round (even after load balancing the teams), it wont put them out of reach to other teams. This is kind of like soccer where a win is 1 whether you won by 1 goal or 10 goals. Again, nothing is perfect in this area but this is the method that offers the most fun and closeness of competition so we chose this method.

Fantasy Football

Who knew fantasy football could be so much fun? Or so frustrating? Several months ago a seemingly innocent post was written in the members area inquiring about interest in a fantasy football league. The mild mannered M@sterMynd meticulously <del class='bbc'>manipulated, twisted, deceived, scammed, hoodwinked, and strung along</del> kept the community up to date leading up to the draft, and laughter and good times abounded through the early weeks. Then that competitive spirit that revs up in so many guys when (1) winning and (2) sports are on the line reared its smart-ass trash talking head. Some of the most memorable post-game sparring is below. Enjoy!

Standings 12/5/2009

1. M@sterMynd 9-3-0 .750 1066 W-7 8 25
2. TOOL 9-3-0 .750 922 W-3 9 2
3. PeeWee 8-4-0 .667 918 L-1 14 10
8. Entropy 6-5-1 .542 947 L-2 11 20
9. Acc 6-6-0 .500 991 W-2 6 18
12. Icemen 3-8-1 .292 822 L-3 2 -
13. John Wayne 3-9-0 .250 924 L-1 7 10

Beating Mike is like Riding a Moped. It's fun but a bit embarrassing. -- M@sterMynd

Acc got soutscored by my QB. LMAO. Oh, btw, Acc also got outscored by my WR. -- M@sterMynd

Riggs looses. ROFL. -- M@sterMynd

I still would have beaten several of the teams in the league this week and have the most overall points. So I'm not worried about my status at the top. (See current standings, lol) -- Riggs

lolz @ all of jooooooooo, I had a great day! I passed that fool M@sterMynd in the standings. -- slowhand. In response, You did have a great day, no doubt about that. Congrats on being in 8th place with a sub. 500 record too. That's awesome! -- Riggs.

Would you rather be 1-8 by clearly tanking the FF season or 2-7 and trying? Mike? Jdub? -- M@sterMynd

Speaking of routs, no one can touch the 109 to 8 bashing TOOL gave PeeWee last week. What were you guys doing, practicing for a USA-Canada match in "anything?" -- M@sterMynd

Was that a stab at Canadian Football? -- PeeWee

Riggs has done the remarkable. Taking the best team on paper and performing worse each and every week. -- M@sterMynd

Entropy, your empirical methods of conjuring up a roster looked to be working. You increased your points every week and then make a classic mistake. You let ME get under your skin during previous rants and you swung the fence. I mean whiffed and your divot went further than the ball last week. 36 points, lol... -- M@sterMynd

Bier, you managed to pair a premier quarterback, top wide receiver, and excellent running back with some of the worst players in the league to somehow mire yourself in mediocrity. 0.400 win % FTL. You Fail. -- Entropy

What you lack in creativity you sure make up for in jealousy. -- Riggs

I'm going to make you my bitch. gg. -- Entropy

You are getting crushed for this nonsense remark! -- M@sterMynd

Please continue. . . I am amused. -- EyeAmSam
